Man Arrested for Weapons, Bites Officer’s Leg

A Guelph man faces several charges including assaulting police after an officer was bit on the leg Wednesday.

Just before 6 p.m. police were called to a business near London Road West and Woolwich Street for reports of a male yelling at staff and throwing things around.

Officers located the male a short distance away and noted he was carrying steel pipes in each hand. He was ordered to drop them and placed under arrest. While he was handcuffed and sitting on the ground he lunged forward and bit the arresting officer on the upper thigh.

A 60-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault police, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000 and several counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
