A Guelph man who fled an officer and later showed up at the police station was arrested Monday.
Just before noon Monday, a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Clair Road West when he clocked a car travelling at 115 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The officer activated his lights and sirens, but the driver sped past him.
The driver ran a red light at Gosling Gardens then slowed for a red light at Gordon Street before accelerating through it. The officer did not pursue in the interest of public safety but was able to visually identify the driver.
At 9:15 p.m. a man approached an officer outside the police station and asked why an officer had been at his address earlier in the day looking for him. He was confirmed to be the driver from the earlier incident and was arrested.
A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, stunt driving and speeding. His license was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. He will appear in court August 5.
