A Hamilton-area male faces charges after a motorcyclist took off on police early Saturday.

Just after midnight, Guelph Police Service officers were patrolling on Gordon Street in an unmarked vehicle. A BMW motorcycle with a female passenger passed the police vehicle at a high rate of speed. When the officers activated their emergency equipment, the motorcycle sped away.

The motorcycle was not pursued, but another officer in the area clocked it on radar at 129 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. When it pulled into a parking lot on Clair Road officers were able to block it in.

A 21-year-old Stoney Creek male is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and stunt driving. His license was suspended for 30 days and the motorcycle impounded for 14 days. He will appear in a Guelph court August 1, 2023.
