New MRI means temporary location and processes for MRI exams from July – November
On July 4, Guelph General Hospital will begin the process of retrofitting its Diagnostic Imaging suite to accommodate a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine that will replace the 16-year-old machine currently in use. The purchase of this much needed equipment was made possible by the generosity of all of you, our community, through the Together, We Care Campaign of The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. We are incredibly grateful for that support.
The new MRI will offer an enhanced patient experience for the 12,000 patients who have an MRI each year.
What you can expect:
We anticipate welcoming patients to the newly renovated MRI suite in November. During the renovation period, we will continue MRI services using a temporary MRI trailer which will be installed at the back of the hospital. Maintaining MRI services during this time allows us to minimize service disruption as patients will continue to have access to state-of-the-art MRI technology.
Parking will be further limited due to the temporary MRI trailer occupying several parking spaces. With this in mind, we ask that when possible you:
- Ask someone to drop you off and pick you up
- Consider using public transit. Bus route 12 goes directly to the hospital.
When you arrive at the hospital for an MRI, please register in our Diagnostic Imaging department on the 3rd Floor of the hospital. You will then be directed to the temporary MRI for your exam. Signage will be in place to help you find your way and staff and volunteers will be in the area to provide assistance.
When you can expect it:
- July 4: Our temporary MRI will arrive
- July 28: A crane will be onsite to remove the old MRI machine
- September 18: Our new MRI will arrive and a crane will be onsite to lift it into place
- November 3: Our temporary MRI will be removed
We are very pleased to be updating our hospital to ensure those we serve enjoy the best health care possible. We appreciate your patience and that of our neighbours as we make the much needed renovations and changes to accommodate the new equipment.
Thank you.
Gavin Webb,
Vice President, Finance and Chief Information Officer
