The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a garbage can fire early Thursday led to the evacuation of a downtown hotel.
Approximately 2:25 a.m. police received a call from a Guelph Transit employee reporting he had extinguished a garbage can fire across from the transit hub, but a second garbage fire down the street had spread to a building.
Officers arrived and found flames had spread to the corner of a hotel and smoke was entering the building. The hotel was briefly evacuated while firefighters extinguished the flames.
Security video showed two males dressed all in black separately approach the garbage cans shortly before flames are seen.
