Pair of Racing Motorcyclists Charged with Stunt Driving

A pair of motorcyclists should get used to walking after they were taken off the road for racing through Guelph Tuesday evening.

Approximately 6:20 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Services Unit was patrolling on Stone Road West when he observed two motorcycles travelling at an excessive speed who appeared to be racing. The officer followed the pair southbound on the Hanlon Expressway until they stopped at a red light.

The officer exited his cruiser and was able to engage one motorcycle’s brake lever.

Both motorcycles also had their rear license plates attached to hinges, allowing the license plates to be tucked under the bodywork so they would not be visible from the rear.

A 22-year-old man from Cambridge and 20-year-old woman from Woodbridge are charged with stunt driving and driving with obstructed license plates. Both had their licenses suspended for 30 days and their bikes impounded for 14 days.

A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum license suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points.
