Pair Unknowingly Buys Stolen SUV, $11.5K Cash

A Guelph man and his mother are out thousands of dollars and a vehicle after they unknowingly purchased a stolen SUV.

The pair attended the police station Monday afternoon. They had met up with an unknown male Saturday in Mississauga, paying $11,500 cash for a 2015 Honda CRV which had been advertised for sale online.

They brought the vehicle back to Guelph to have it checked by a mechanic and detailed, but when they tried to register the vehicle at Service Ontario they were told to contact the police.

Officers ran the vehicle identification number and learned the Honda had been stolen from Toronto. The keys were seized and the vehicle impounded to be returned to its owner. The investigation is ongoing.
