Phones Stolen During Hockey Practice at Sleeman Centre
A Guelph man faces charges after several cellphones were stolen while their owners attended hockey practice Tuesday evening.
Approximately 6:20 p.m. a male entered a changeroom at the Sleeman Centre, removing seven phones, Apple Airpods and a pair of glasses. The male was identified through surveillance video.
Shortly before 11 p.m., police were called for an unrelated matter at a downtown business and recognized the male from the earlier call. All of the stolen property was recovered. A further search also revealed two sets of brass knuckles.
A 34-year-old Guelph man is charged with seven counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000, two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in court March 12.
