Police Dog Echo Locates Man Who Entered Woman’s Bedroom as She Slept

A Guelph man faces several charges after a woman was twice awakened by a stranger in her bedroom.

Approximately 3:15 a.m. May 6, an adult female was awakened by the feeling of her bed covers being lifted and saw a man run out of her College Avenue West apartment. Approximately 2 a.m. Monday the victim awoke to find a male standing next to her bed. She yelled at him and he ran from the apartment. The victim confirmed it was the same male both times.

Officers located a bag of stolen property outside the apartment building. A canine track began and a short time later Police Service Dog Echo located the suspect nearby. Investigation revealed the male had also entered the garage of a home on Vanier Drive, stealing the property which was earlier located by police.

A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with four counts of break and enter and one count of trespassing at night. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
