The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a woman turned over her debit card after being contacted by someone claiming to be a police officer.
The woman reported her account was recently compromised and she had the account frozen and a new bank card issued. On Thursday she was contacted by someone claiming to be from her bank who said there is an ongoing police investigation into suspicious activity on her account.
A short time later someone claiming to be a police officer called and made arrangements for an agent to attend the complainant’s address and get her card and someone did pick it up.
The complainant was suspicious and locked her card and no financial loss was reported.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Matt Simpson at 519-824-1212, ext. 7318, email msimpson@guelphpolice.ca, leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
