Loaded Gun, Drugs Seized Following Arrest
A Niagara Region male faces firearm and drug charges after a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition was seized in Guelph Wednesday.
Earlier this year, members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit began an investigation into a male believed to be attending the City of Guelph to traffic illegal substances. As a result of the investigation a male was arrested Wednesday afternoon near Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road.
During a search incident to arrest officers located a Glock 9mm handgun in the male’s waistband. The serial number had been removed and the firearm was loaded with hollow-point bullets with one in the chamber ready to shoot. Officers also recovered approximately $4,000 worth of cocaine and several thousand dollars in cash.
A 20-year-old Smithville male is charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition and other weapons charges. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
