Premier: Guelph Council “Bunch of Left-wing Lunatics’
Listen to this articleDuring question period at Queen’s Park on Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford didn’t hesitate to share his views on Guelph’s local government when questioned about municipal infrastructure funding.
“I like your mayor, he just can’t get up there and make a decision, so he always wants to pile it onto the province,” Ford stated, receiving applause from fellow Progressive Conservative MPPs. “He’s a good guy actually, I like him. But your whole council in Guelph are a bunch of left-wing lunatics. Simple as that.”
These remarks were in response to a query from Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner, who is also the leader of the Ontario Green Party. Schreiner had asked the provincial government to honor its commitment to compensate municipalities for reduced development charges, particularly as new housing projects are underway.
