A Guelph male faces an obstruction charge after an innocent woman was implicated in a theft.
On Tuesday, police were called to investigate the theft of a cash box from a fruit stand in the city’s south end. A male suspect was quickly identified and arrested a short time later for theft under $5,000. During the investigation, the male provided a name for his female accomplice.
However when officers located the named female they quickly realized she was not the suspect caught on surveillance video and had nothing to do with the theft. The actual involved female was subsequently located and arrested.
Wednesday evening the male was further charged with obstructing police. He will appear in a Guelph court September 5, 2023.
