A Guelph man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion-style robbery over the weekend.
Just after 2 a.m. Sunday police were called to an address near Watson Parkway North and Starwood Drive. A resident said several people had entered his apartment and dragged him out of bed. He was sprayed with bear spray and robbed of his wallet and a diamond ring. The intruders also claimed to have a gun but none was seen.
Security cameras showed three men arriving at the building in a black sedan and entering with a woman who was already on scene. Minutes later all four are seen fleeing in the sedan at a high rate of speed.
A few hours after the incident a 35-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for break and enter, robbery, assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance.
On Tuesday, approximately 8:30 a.m., officers saw a man riding a motorized scooter in the area of Delaware Avenue and Mohawk Drive and knew him to be wanted for the Sunday incident as well as an earlier disturbance in September.
The man was stopped and investigation revealed the scooter had been stolen Sunday from outside a nearby business. A search revealed four tightly-wrapped packages of cocaine and other controlled substances.
A 31-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts each of robbery and assault with a weapon, break and enter, administer a noxious substance, mischief under $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing stolen property. He was held for a bail hearing October 21.
