A Guelph male was pronounced deceased and a female airlifted with serious injuries following a collision Thursday afternoon.

Approximately 3:35 p.m., a pickup truck was westbound on Stone Road West when the driver suffered a medical episode. The truck left the roadway, striking a female pedestrian who had been sitting under a tree reading before colliding with several parked and unoccupied vehicles and coming to rest in the Stone Road Mall parking lot.

Lifesaving efforts were undertaken at the scene by an off-duty nurse. A 64-year-old Guelph male was transported to Guelph General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The 32-year-old pedestrian was transported by air ambulance to an out of area hospital for treatment of serious lower-body injuries. A female passenger in the pickup was not physically injured.
