Smart Watch Summons Emergency Help for Senior

A senior citizen’s smart watch is being credited with helping emergency services find him after a fall Wednesday morning.

Approximately 7:45 a.m., a Guelph Police Service communicator received an automated 911 call from an Apple Watch, indicating it had detected a hard fall by its wearer and providing his location in a commercial parking lot.

The communicator was able to establish voice contact with the wearer, a male in his late 70s who was having difficulty speaking. Police officers were dispatched to the area and within minutes located the male who had fallen on ice. An ambulance was then dispatched and the male was left in the care of paramedics.
