Impaired Driving Arrest

Speeding Leads to Impaired Charge

A Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving Monday evening after being stopped for speeding.

Approximately 9:30 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement on Gordon Street near Kortright Road when he clocked a Mazda driving 82 km/h in the 50 km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped and while speaking to the driver the officer smelled an odour of alcohol on her breath. After failing a roadside breath test she was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed she had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

A 37-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving and speeding. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in court March 8.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
