A Guelph male faces almost 20 charges following an investigation into a stolen vehicle last Friday.
Last Friday, officers were conducting surveillance on a stolen vehicle in a parking lot near Speedvale Avenue West and Elmira Road North when they saw a male approaching and opening the vehicle. He placed a backpack inside the vehicle and was walking away when he was approached by an officer.
The male tried to flee on foot before becoming involved in a physical struggle, during which three officers sustained minor injuries. Following his arrest officers located the keys to the vehicle as well as a spring-loaded knife in the male’s pockets.
A search of the vehicle revealed pepper spray, several knives, small amounts of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine and suspected stolen property including mail and identification.
A 39-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault to resist arrest and several property, drug and weapons counts as well as six counts of breaching court orders. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
