Students Return to Class as New School Year Begins in Guelph

Students across Guelph and surrounding communities are heading back to class today as the 2025–2026 school year officially begins in both the public and Catholic school systems.

For the Upper Grand District School Board, today marks the first day of instruction following a Professional Activity Day on Tuesday. Schools across the board are welcoming elementary and secondary students back after the Labour Day long weekend. The board has posted a back-to-school guide online, with links to school directories, calendars, bus transportation details, and before- and after-school program information.

The Wellington Catholic District School Board is also welcoming students back today.

Both boards are reminding families to review their school year calendars, which outline upcoming holidays and Professional Activity Days. Transportation providers are also encouraging parents and students to check bus routes and schedules through the online family portals.

With schools across the city and county reopening, families are being urged to give themselves extra time this week, as traffic and pedestrian activity around school zones is expected to increase.
