Teen Arrested with $8,500 in Counterfeit Cash

A Guelph teen faces several charges after a large amount of counterfeit cash was seized following his arrest Monday night.

Approximately 11:30 p.m. police were called to a plaza on Speedvale Avenue East, where they found the 14-year-old being held down by a family friend. The teen’s mother told officers her son is on two different undertakings with conditions not to drink and to be home by 9 p.m. When he was not home by his curfew the mother and a friend went looking for him and found him intoxicated at the plaza.

Officers placed the teen under arrest for breaching his release orders. During a search incident to arrest officers recovered more than $8,000 in fake money, including 85 $100 bills.

The teen was arrested for four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and possessing counterfeit money. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
