Theft Leads to Robbery Charge for Guelph Man

Shoplifting lead to a robbery charge for a Guelph man Sunday after an employee was injured.

Shortly after noon Sunday, Guelph Police Service officers were dispatched to a business on Woodlawn Road West near Woolwich Street. A man was observed by a loss prevention employee to be opening electronics and concealing them in a bag.

The employee approached the man, who refused to return the items. A physical struggle ensued, during which the employee received a minor injury to his hand. Officers arrived within minutes and arrested the suspect outside the business. Approximately $275 worth of product was recovered.

A 46-year-old Guelph man is charged with robbery. He will appear in court March 5.
