Vessel in Distress Call at Guelph Lake

While there were no reported injuries, charges have been filed in relation to a distressed vessel incident at Guelph Lake on Wednesday.

Jacob Unger, the media relations officer for Wellington OPP, conveyed that at 6:40 p.m., the Guelph fire department and EMS addressed a call concerning a boat carrying two individuals in Guelph Lake.

Thanks to the fire department’s prompt action, they deployed a boat and safely escorted the occupants to the shore. Although evaluated by EMS, no transportation was required.

A 22-year-old individual from Kitchener now faces charges for not equipping the boat with a lifejacket for each passenger and the absence of a whistle or other sounding instrument, which breaches the Canada Shipping Act.
