Violent Sexual Assault Investigation Update

The Guelph Police Service believe there may be more victims in relation to an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

In March, the Guelph Police Service began a sexual assault investigation involving a 47-year-old Cambridge man, Trevor Bettschen. As a result of the investigation, Bettschen was arrested on March 15 and charged with the following offences:

  • Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Strangulation
  • Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Forcible Confinement

Bettschen remains in custody on these charges.

On August 29, Bettschen was further charged in connection with a second adult victim.

Police believe that Bettschen deliberately targets individuals associated with the sex trade.

Investigators have also identified that Bettschen used a 2020 Nissan Murano, similar to the one pictured, during the commission of recent offences. Prior to October 2024, police believe Bettschen was using a different, unknown vehicle.

The Guelph Police Service is concerned there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Constable Shannon Carroll of the Guelph Police Service Special Victims Unit at 519-824-1212, ext. 7357, or by email at scarroll@guelphpolice.ca. Anonymous messages can also be left for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.csgw.tips.

All victims of sexual violence have the right to be heard, supported, and protected. Support services are available for anyone impacted by these crimes through the auspices of the Guelph Police Service and Victim Services Guelph-Wellington.
