West-end Mail Theft Leads to Arrest

A Guelph man faces several charges after he was caught on video breaking into several mailboxes at a west-end apartment building.

Saturday morning, officers were called to an apartment building near Waterloo Avenue and Silvercreek Parkway South. The building manager reported several mailboxes entered overnight.

Surveillance video showed a male attending the building just after 4 a.m. and gaining entry. He pried open five mailboxes – removing mail from two – and caused damage to five more.

Officers recognized the male in the video as someone who is on terms not to attend the building following an earlier similar incident. He was located at his home and arrested.

A 20-year-old Guelph man is charged with trespass by night, mischief under $5,000, theft of mail and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
