Guelph Police Arrest Downtown Drug Dealer

A Guelph man was arrested on trafficking and weapons charges on the first day of the Guelph Police Service’s new downtown public safety initiative.

Earlier this week we announced additional resources will be dedicated to addressing public safety concerns in the downtown, including open drug use and associated criminal behaviours, following complaints from the community. These dedicated patrols began Thursday.

Just after 3 p.m. officers at St. George’s Square observed a male carrying a large amount of cash and a pipe contaminated with residue from controlled substances. He was stopped and placed under arrest.

A search incident to arrest revealed quantities of fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and a large folding knife on his person.

A 41-year-old Guelph man is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
