Strike Possible at Canada Post as Early as May 22, 2025

Canada Post could face a labour disruption as early as May 22, 2025. While there is no current strike, negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) remain ongoing.

CUPW previously launched a national strike on November 15, 2024, which was suspended on December 17, 2024, after an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). This order reinstated the existing collective agreements, extending them until May 22, 2025, to provide time for further negotiations.

To assist in the dispute, the federal government appointed an Industrial Inquiry Commission (IIC), tasked with assessing the situation and providing recommendations. The IIC’s report is due by May 15, 2025.

If a new collective agreement is not reached following the commission’s findings, a labour disruption—including a possible strike—could begin after the current agreements expire on May 22, 2025.

Canada Post has stated that updates will continue to be provided through its official labour negotiations page.
