A Guelph man faces several charges after two police officers were assaulted Friday morning.
Just after 12:30 a.m. police were called to a disturbance at a townhouse complex on Janefield Avenue after a caller reported yelling and smashing sounds outside.
Officers arrived and found three parked vehicles with broken windows, including one with a golf club piercing the windshield. A suspect came out while officers were speaking to witnesses. When officers tried to arrest him, he punched one officer in the head and grabbed the other’s vest and hands in an effort to prevent the arrest.
He was taken to the ground and handcuffed with assistance from other officers who arrived on scene. Both of the original responding officers sustained minor injuries.
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of assault to resist arrest. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
