A Hamilton man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after a parked car was struck in Guelph Tuesday night.
Just after 9 p.m. emergency services were called to the area of Bristol Street and Yorkshire Street South. Investigation revealed a driver had struck a parked Tesla, pushing it against a utility pole. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
Officers observed several empty and unopened beer cans and detected an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. While there samples of his breath were taken which indicated he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 23-year-old Hamilton man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court December 9.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
