Guelph ICE Unit Adds Serious Offences in Ongoing Child-Luring Case

A child’s disclosure in August triggered a police investigation that has now led to multiple serious charges. The expanding case highlights how quickly online interactions can escalate into criminal behaviour once a minor is targeted.

A Guelph man faces several sexual assault and luring charges following an investigation involving a child.

In August, a 12-year-old girl disclosed to police she met a man on social media. Despite telling him her age, he began to send her explicit images of himself as well as pornographic clips. On September 1, an 18-year-old Guelph man was arrested for luring a person under 16, exposure to a person under 16 and distributing intimate images to a person under 16.

His phone was seized at the time of his arrest. Following an investigation by the Guelph Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit the man has been further charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material (formerly known as child pornography).

He will appear in court January 20.
