Special Air Quality Statement in Effect for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph

A Special Air Quality Statement is in effect for the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph regions.

High levels of air pollution are expected to continue into today due to smoke from forest fires.

Smoke plumes from forest fires over northeastern Ontario and Quebec have moved into the area, resulting in deteriorated air quality. Conditions are expected to improve for some areas on Thursday night.

WDG Public Health is encouraging all residents to monitor for symptoms of smoke exposure and seek medical care when necessary. Stop or reduce your activity level if breathing is uncomfortable or you are feeling unwell. People respond differently to smoke, and it is important to be aware of how your body is feeling.

Air quality and visibility can change from hour to hour. To view the most up-to-date Air Quality Health Index for your area and what precautions to take, visit Environment Canada’s Air Quality Health Index and click “Show Health Message” for more information.
