A Guelph man faces theft and other charges after he was caught and detained while breaking into a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Approximately 1:20 p.m. police were called to a plaza near Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road West. A man had entered a vehicle and stole cash. The owner of the vehicle saw this and he and other witnesses detained the suspect.
Officers arrived a short time later and placed the man under arrest. Investigation revealed he had a bag containing approximately $270 in clothing stolen a short time earlier from a store at Stone Road Mall.
He provided a false name but his true identity was determined a short time later and he was found to be bound by a probation order.
A 26-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, obstructing police and breaching a probation order. He will appear in court November 25.
